Who will be the MVP in 2020?

The MVP award has seemingly become a quarterback award, with 12 of the last 13 winners coming from the position. Entering 2020 we have a number of candidates in the running for award. Those candidates range from players in the relative infancy of their career through to players potentially playing their final season or two. Let’s take a look at who our analysts see winning the MVP award in 2020.

Our Analyst's Picks

Alex Chinery (Head of Analytics): Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks

Mahomes will be the consensus pick and no player has been better on offense in recent seasons. However, Wilson has arguably been a slightly better passer the last few seasons when you strip away the surrounding talent and offensive scheme. If Seattle cut Wilson loose then he has everything you need to win the MVP.

Ben Rolfe (Head of NFL Content): Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys

I am going to go slightly outside of the main field and pick a player who will have a lot of reason to make a big statement in 2020. After finally being released from a Jason Garrett-led offense, Prescott has the chance to play in a much more open offense this season. There is arguably no more loaded offense in 2020, and playing on the franchise tag could be a big incentive for Prescott to put up monster numbers in 2020.

Callum Squires (NFL Analyst): Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

Not exactly an “outside the box” pick, but how do you look past him? As incredible as Lamar Jackson was last season, the MVP race would’ve been very close if Mahomes hadn’t had his knee injury midway through last year. He took the Chiefs to the promised land and IS the best player in the league. Keep it simple.

Michael Norbury (NFL Betting Analyst): Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints

Hard to believe he’s never won it and individual awards are often tinged with sentiment. The Saints are set for a winning season, if he’s playing okay under centre he might just get it for old time’s sake.

Paul Mainwaring (NFL Analyst): Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

Let’s keep this simple. Mahomes is the best player, playing for the best team

Simon Carroll (Head of NFL Draft Content): Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks

Traditionally a run first team, there were signs that the passing game in Seattle was coming to life at the end of last year. I fully expect D.K. Metcalf to take the next step and help Wilson – somewhat forgotten about outside of the Pacific North West – be given his due.

Steve Moore (NFL Betting Analyst): Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

Drew Brees may get votes if the Saints stroll the NFC South, especially if they beat Tom Brady twice. If Carson Wentz plays 16 games, he could well make a run but it’s very difficult to see past Patrick Mahomes if he stays fit.

Tom Scott (NFL and Fantasy Football Analyst): Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson will become the first back-to-back NFL MVP since Peyton Manning back in 2008 and 2009
