Waiver Wire Week 12

By 5 Yard Rush

There is just 2 or 3 weeks left of the Fantasy Football regular season. It seems like yesterday it was Week One and everyone had renewed optimism for their newly drafted teams. Now, we reach the time the of year where the 0-11 all the way up to the 4-7 owners are giving up. I strongly urge you to keep fighting, make Waiver Wire claims and set lineups. Certainly do not trade away assets to make other teams stronger. It just ruins your league for everyone else. It’s no different to running a marathon and getting yourself into contention to win, only to see someone jump in a car, drive 5 miles and be dropped off 500m from the line.

We all love this game. At least, I would hope so if you are reading this. If not, then thanks mum for taking the time to read this. Just play the game the right way. Nobody is asking you to do anything that is majorly time consuming. Just submit some Waiver Wire claims and put your best team out. No one will get made for taking a gamble on Brian Hill over Ronald Jones II. However, if you line up Mahomes this week, as he’s on bye, it’s just ruining it for everyone else.

For those of you still chasing playoff spots, this Waiver Wire is the thinnest yet. I would spent this week picking up those handcuffs for Running Backs. If you don’t know who to pick up, Andre has written about them here. However, should you need to add a piece, here is who I would target:

QUARTERBACKS

RYAN TANNEHILL – 15.8% OWNED

Week 11- BYE

Tannehill has earned the starting job in Tennessee and has looked really good. Since coming in for Mariota, he has completed 71.3% of his passes and has 9 Touchdowns (1 Rushing, 8 Passing), 4 INTs, 1,161 yards Passing and 83 yards Rushing. This week he faces Jacksonville in a divisional game. That Jags defense is not as strong as it used to be. Therefore don’t be afraid to start Tannehill, who could have an effective game.

SAM DARNOLD- 12.4% OWNED

Week 11- 19/30 293 Yds, 4 TDs, 1 INT, -3 Yds Rushing

Darnold has put two brilliant performances together in a row now. He came off an excellent game last week to destroy the Redskins and put by top QB fantasy numbers this week. If you followed this pick last week, roll him out again. He plays the pretty awful Oakland Raiders defense this week at home.

RUNNING BACKS

JONATHAN WILLIAMS– 0% OWNED

Week 11- 116 Yds Rushing, 1 Rec, 31 Yards Receiving

Marlon Mack got injured on Sunday with a fractured hand. I would be surprised if he was back before the Fantasy Football Playoffs. Add in the fact the Colts also have Jordan Wilkins sidelined with an ankle injury and you have a pretty empty backfield. Next man up is Jonathan Williams, who managed 116 yards rushing and 1 catch for 31 yards against the Jags on Sunday. With the Colts playing on Thursday night football this week, there will not be time for Mack or Wilkins to make it back. Therefore, Williams is a solid bet to start this week and perform against the Houston Texans.

TREY EDMUNDS – 4.8% OWNED

Week 11- 3 Carries, 11 Yards Rushing, 3 Rec 27 Yards

Trey Edmunds was on our Waiver Wire list a couple of weeks ago, when James Conner was out injured. Well on Thursday night, Conner got injured again. Edmunds got 18 touches when Conner was out for two games. As a result, it makes sense to pick up Edmunds if you need a starter and Williams is not on Waivers. However, the Running Back position is thin on the Waiver Wire. So, if you want to pick up a handcuff instead, I think that would be a wise move.

WIDE RECEIVERS

DARIUS SLAYTON – 21.3% OWNED

Week 11- BYE

Darius Slayton was in this column last week and we told you to grab him and stash for a week. However, if you didn’t follow this advice last week, then you will need to put down more FAAB dollars this week than last week. He had a breakout game in Week Ten against the Jets. If you need a receiver this week, then look the way of the Slayton. It seems unlikely Shepard will go this week, however do watch the Injury Report for updates. He is the best Waiver Wire Wide Receiver option out there.

DEEBO SAMUEL – 25.1% OWNED

Week 11- 8 Receptions, 134 Yds

Deebo Samuel has arrived in the NFL. In his last two games, he has broken 100 yards in the air twice. He is getting more and more targets and is a big factor in this offense. However, the biggest factor to Samuel’s success is the 49ers trade for Emmanuel Sanders before the trade deadline. Now there are more weapons in this offense, Samuel is getting open more and making plays. The only issue with Samuel is the lack of Touchdowns, just one on the year. However, he is due some positive regression in this category and it wouldn’t shock me if this came in this weekend’s game vs the Green Bay Packers.

TIGHT END

JACOB HOLLISTER– 14.2% OWNED

Week 11- BYE

Hollister has been a huge asset to the Seahawks and in particular Russell Wilson in the last couple of weeks. Since replacing Will Dissly and making himself the Number 1 Tight End, he has been a threat and a points machine for Fantasy Football. In the last two weeks, prior to the bye, Hollister has 12 catches for 99 yards and 3 Touchdowns. If you own Kelce or Henry this week, this should be a top Waiver Wire add for you. If for some reason Hollister is gone, Ryan Griffin of the Jets will be your backup option for the Waiver Wire.

KICKER

YOUNGHOE KOO – 4.9% OWNED

Week 11- 3/4 FGs and 2/2XPs – 10 Fantasy Points

After winning the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 10 for his performance vs the Saints, he put up another double digit fantasy game. Therefore, you should be picking up Koo, who lit up the XFL early on in 2019, as he has the Buccaneers coming into his building next Sunday. Expect another double digit week for Koo in a high scoring affair.

D/ST

DETROIT LIONS – 8.5% OWNED

Playing @ Washington Redskins Next

The Lions aren’t an amazing defense. In fact, through the season they have conceded a lot of points and had just 2 D/ST top 12 finishes. However, they play the Washington Redskins on Thanksgiving this week. The Redskins managed to go 16 Quarters without scoring a Touchdown prior to two garbage time scores against the Jets on Sunday. It’s a surprise Waiver Wire add, but one that should be exploited.

That’s it for this week. We hope you get a lot out of this article and are seeing some success. You can listen to the audio show on your favourite podcast app. We also answer questions on Twitter @5yardrush so do get in touch there. However, until next week, Keep Rushing.
