2022 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT REPORT

Julius Turner

Pro's:

  • Incredible quickness to shoot gaps right off the snap
  • Works his hands very well – he can’t win by being bigger than guys, so he dominates with his hands
  • His frame allows him to play with great leverage
  • Great leverage helps him anchor better than expected against the run
  • Very good closing speed when left unblocked on stunts

Con's:

  • Makes Aaron Donald look massive
  • Uses a strange slanted alignment which leaves him susceptible to down blocks
  • Gets upfield too quickly at times – can completely take himself out of a play before it really starts
  • Has almost no chance of beating double teams coming downhill at him

The Verdict:

“Julius Turner is an undersized iDL who finds himself in the backfield almost every snap. He makes up for his lack of size and length with great burst, usually blowing past offensive lineman before they even get a chance to punch. He works his hands very well, consistently winning with quick swims and rips. If he is left unblocked on a stunt he will be in the quarterback’s lap quickly. Since he can’t improve his size, he will need to beef up his lower body strength, just to ensure he’ll be able to anchor on the next level. Not every tiny iDL needs to be compared to any version of Aaron Donald, but Julius Turner might just deserve it.
